As far as I can tell, the only recent change to my system is upgrading to kernel 2.6.31, and now KAudioCreator won't rip CDs anymore. It says "The process for the audiocd protocol died unexpectedly," and dmesg gives this:

I'm at a loss for this; has anyone else seen this problem?

Does it work again if you reboot into your older kernel?

Have a similar problem. I don't know exactly when it happened as I haven't ripped cds in a while.
Currently using gentoo-sources-2.6.32-r1 (for various reasons that I won't detail I don't have
an earlier kernel available at the moment).
The problem seem to be kio_audiocd selecting the cd volume in dolphin results in kio_audiocd
shooting up to ~95% cpu usage for no reading activity.
I guess it could be a missing kernel option any idea?
kaudiocreator and soundkonverter don't work.
k3b use cdparanoia directly and works but is not flexible enough for me.
audex doesn't see my cd.

I seem to have solved my problem for now. It seems to point to a more insidious problem
in kde4 or may be QT4, and I don't know where to start.
After examination of dmesg logs, I found out that audex didn't work because it was looking at
the wrong drive - even though I told it explicitly to switch to my other drive, and it indicated
the right drive - it still looked at the wrong drive.
I decided that it was solvable by opening the box and unplugging the drive that I hardly
ever use. And lo and behold it solved the kio_audiocd problem as well.

I hadn't ripped anything so far under kde4. Last time I ripped something it was under
kde3 and it was working.

So two possibilities:
1) in the time interval my other drive developed a fault that is affecting user-side somehow. Unlikely.
2) kde4/QT4 has troubles dealing with more than one drive.....

My gut feeling is on option 2 - someone on the audex page also indicated they had trouble with
2 drives. It seems the audex dev was thinking it was an audex problem but I have a feeling
it is deeper than that. Now if I fill out a bug where and under what category?
