What games do people still play these days?

  • Quote

Post by John5788 » Sun Apr 26, 2009 5:07 am

I've been away from the gaming scene for a very long time, just reinstalled true combat to play, but there were barely any people playing! all the servers were empty except 1 that had 4 people total.

where'd everyone go? what other games are people playing?

If you're looking for a realism-based shooter, Urban Terror might be a good start. Otherwise, Nexuiz just updated so there should be some more people on that. Or, for something completely different: World of Goo, if you like puzzle games/physic simulations you should give it a shot and dl the demo.

Today?

Shooter:
ET-QuakeWars.
Waiting for UT3-Linux-Client. (With Cedega, i played the Singelplayer til the End, Online it won't work since i have to use the Patch 2.0)

Strategy and the best Game Ever:
Civilization IV + Warlords + Beyond the Sword (with cedega, but take care: Don't try the "Complete Edition" or Download-Versions like Steam)-
(And i am waiting for my Version of Alpha Centauri)

2D-Slide-Shooter:
Jets n Guns

And Jump n Run:
The Prince of Persia Trilogy + the new Prince of Persion 2008 (with cedega)

Sometimes: x3 - reunion (its time expensive! - and has some bad game-design "bugs". It Rocks!)

The Games i will try in future:

Bioshock (cedega, works really nice!)
Fear2 (if its a budget game)
Sacrad gold (maybe..)

I hope some Adventures will run with Wine/Cedega:
"A new Beginning" and "The Whispered World" from Daedalic Entertainment
and "The Book of Unwritten Tales" (works - cedega). Damn i like these Adventures so much, since i played Monkey Island!

The Orange Box is £8 on Steam. I bought it for £15 the week before, just for Portal. Both work in wine. Peggle & Peggle Nights also work in Steam/Wine, as little puzzler flash games. The demos are free.

World of Goo is out for Linux, and if it is as good as the Wii version, should be bought instantly.

Not much time to play games nowadays. Last game I played was Fallout3 couple of months ago.

Freeciv is about all I play. It's really come a long way in the last few years.

I noticed linuxquestions gave the games award to battle of wesnoth. Been a bit hooked on that lately. Great strategy game.

My lighter entertainment one is Supertux kart. Good, simple racing. You can download extra tracks from their website.

Ruskie the Linux QW guru :)

I played QW since about NQR 2 (always lowskilled div4) but gave up a few years ago when the community really started to shrink. Such a shame, never had as much fun playing anything else since.

It runs for me without complaints in 64-bit Gentoo. It's much (much!) slower than I'd like, but it is playable.

Found another kickass shumup - Hurrican!

It's basically a Turrican clone but the graphics are superb (If you like Jets'n'Guns you'll probably like this :))

No Linux version sadly, but it works in WINE and is free! (Beer, not speech)

Speaking of Jets'n'Guns BTW, The RiG folks told me there was now a Linux version, and I checked it out, but it has DRM on it, and not just serial key DRM but on-line activation a'la Telltale Games Sam'n'Max or Steam!! WTF? Seriously??

If RiG didn't need to DRM JnG, I can't understand why LGP feel the need to... :(

Hi,

I'm waiting for QuakeLive to be released on Linux !

Besides, much more the same as the people who posted before me plus Company of Heroes. (Quake 3, Civ 4, Doom3+RoE, ETQW, WoW on Linux )
And a bit of World of Warcraft ... yeah, I'm ashamed. But it's to have a game in common with my wife !

Regards,
Maxime
