Philips SPC210NC webcam not working

Well, first, a BIG hello to the gentoo comunity.

Ok, next ... .) I have a Philips SPC210NC webcam and I'm trying to get it to work with my gentoo linux. I compiled the kernel and specified in Multimedia to have support for Philips and SPCA web cameras. After compiling I get this in dmesg when I put the camera :

Code: Select all

usb 4-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 4
usb 4-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
gspca: probing 0471:032d
zc3xx: probe sif 0x0007
zc3xx: probe sensor -> 0f
zc3xx: Find Sensor PAS106
gspca: probe ok
and I have this modules loaded :

Code: Select all

tux ~ # lsmod | grep spc
gspca_zc3xx            47200  0
gspca_main             20064  1 gspca_zc3xx
videodev               33280  1 gspca_main
usbcore               123824  9 gspca_zc3xx,gspca_main,sl811_hcd,usbhid,ohci_hcd,uhci_hcd,usb_storage,ehci_hcd
Anyhow, the camera doesnt work. Non does the LED flashesh nor any program recognise it. ANy idea how to get it to work ?

Also, I have tried emerging gspca and gspcav1 with no success at compiling cos they allways give me an error :

Code: Select all

 * ERROR: media-video/gspca-01.00.10 failed.
 * Call stack:
 *               ebuild.sh, line   49:  Called src_unpack

 *           [ ! -f "${1}" ] && die "convert_to_m() requires a filename as an argument";
 *  The die message:

for gspca and :

Code: Select all

 * ERROR: media-video/gspcav1-20071224 failed.
 * Call stack:
 *               ebuild.sh, line   49:  Called src_compile

 *  The die message:

for gspcav1.

Anyone has any sollution to this problem ? Here is my emerge --info :

Code: Select all

Al3ks,

Welcome to Gentoo and the forums.

Do you have a /dev/v4l/videoX for your webcam, where X is a number starting at 0 for the first device?
If its there, try a nice simple viewer like xawtv. emerge it if needed and run it as

Code: Select all

xawtv -c /dev/v4l/videoX
where X is the number for your webcam
Regards,

NeddySeagoon

Computer users fall into two groups:-
those that do backups
those that have never had a hard drive fail.

Yes I have that device node in /dev but when i try xawtv -c /dev/v4l/video0 all I get is a black window with a red mouse cursor. Also the webcam's LED doesn't light up when I plug it nor when I load the modules manually. :(

You do not need the seperate gspcav1 drivers from portage if you are using kernel >=2.6.27 which has the drivers included. But you need to emerge media-libs/libv4l. That one contains the userspace components of the driver.

Edit: You can't even compile gspcav(1) against 2.6.27. I assume thats because the driver already is in the kernel.
