Less portage updates than usual?

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

Less portage updates than usual?

Hi,
I've noticed that the number of portage updates has greatly decreased these last weeks (for the stable branch). For example, on a basic server (no X, no WM), that's two weeks there's no update at all.

I'm not complaining! That's better for me. However, I am wondering wether this means that there are not enough people involved in the Gentoo project (less than it used to I mean) or if the this is merely a chance. Or maybe packages are tested longer in the ~x86 branch?

Well, you know, I wouldn't hear one morning that gentoo is stopping because I have many servers running it and I'm heavily relying on it!

Please do not flame me: this is *really* just information I require, that's all. :-)

Are you sure you are not using an rsync server that is no longer up to date?

Well, there is really little new came out in the last month or so. Especially if it is a server. Stable kernel a bit got stuck
in 2.6.25 land.

The big updates - new gcc, new X, kde-4.x are not far away, though

yngwin> Yes, it is up to date. I've been checking several times during the last weeks. It's an hhtp-replicator box.
By the way, there have been some updates (com_err and others), but nothing during the last few weeks.

There is also some shift now to overlays where most of development goes, which used to be closer to ~x86.
So now package gets into unstable after spending some time in overlays and stable is even further down the line.
I suspect some think about putting package into ~x86 as stabilization nowdays :)

There are indeed fluctuations in "perceived activity", but that doesn't necessarily reflect objectively on Gentoo's status of development. All relevant packages seem to be well maintained in Gentoo.

You can objectively follow the development of the tree on http://packages.gentoo.org -- there's also an RSS feed: http://packages.gentoo.org/feed

I shall do it. If that can help, I'll be glad to do it.
