No plugins in Firefox 3 Beta 4?

This forum covers all Gentoo-related software not officially supported by Gentoo. Ebuilds/software posted here might harm the health and stability of your system(s), and are not supported by Gentoo developers. Bugs/errors caused by ebuilds from overlays.gentoo.org are covered by this forum, too.

No plugins in Firefox 3 Beta 4?

  • Quote

Post by xenon » Fri Mar 14, 2008 7:00 pm

I just thought to give FF 3 a try and emerged the latest beta. I know it's masked and I certainly don't expect it to work perfectly, but one thing puzzles me. It it its standard behavior no to load any plugins? I am talking about actual plugins, not Add-Ons/Extensions. The about:plugins page only lists the null fallback plugin, and it's even disabled. Plugins work fine in FF2. Again, I'm just asking whether it's "like that" for now or the error is on my side. Thanks.

i'm running a binary build from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-beta.html and flash works as marvelously as before.
Be good and if you can't be good, be careful.

Not arguing, just asking, but is a masked Firefox ebuild really "unsupported software"?

I'm using www-client/mozilla-firefox-bin-3.0_beta4...

after a deinstalling nspluginwrapper and "emerge -1 netscape-flash" everything was running fine.

Fine. I thought such label only applied to software not present in Portage (actually, i think it should be that way).

Agreed. Anything in Portage is supposed to be supported, as far as I understand.

Either they took it out, or it wasn't in Portage to begin with:

Code: Select all

# ls /usr/portage/www-client/mozilla-firefox
ChangeLog files Manifest metadata.xml mozilla-firefox-2.0.0.11.ebuild mozilla-firefox-2.0.0.12.ebuild
Where would I find an ebuild for a Firefox 3 Beta?

No overlays, it's mozilla-firefox-bin:
mozilla-firefox-bin # ls
ChangeLog files Manifest metadata.xml mozilla-firefox-bin-2.0.0.12.ebuild mozilla-firefox-bin-3.0_beta3.ebuild mozilla-firefox-bin-3.0_beta4.ebuild

But that's binary and some of us (like me) wants to compile it.

Sure, I usually use source but I wanted to quickly try FF3 and saw it was available as binary. I just pointed out it was not from an overlay but from the official Portage.
