XFS and Gentoo-Sources -- Is anyone else upset?

Having problems with the Gentoo Handbook? If you're still working your way through it, or just need some info before you start your install, this is the place. All other questions go elsewhere.

XFS and Gentoo-Sources -- Is anyone else upset?

  • Quote

Post by IronTek » Sun Jun 15, 2003 8:58 pm

I installed Gentoo a while back and, at the time, XFS seemed just fine to use and Portage would easily and quickly patch the official gentoo sources to support XFS.

But now, they seem to be against it and don't offer it in the official gentoo sources. Why?

I know I can compile the xfs-sources from SGI if I want, but I'd much rather use a newer gentoo kernel.

...even have "xfs" under USE in make.conf doesn't work anymore (as it once did).

wtf?

Anyway, now that I'm done ranting, I was curious if there was anyway to manually path the gentoo sources to add support for XFS.

Thanks!

No, but if you want all those nifty Gentoo patches AND xfs AND a lot more, you may also

Code: Select all

emerge wolk-sources
. Note that the ebuild is a bit outdated, but there is a more recent one in Gentoo Bugzilla. Just search for "wolk-sources".

You may also visit the WOLK homepage.

Yes, this is what I was looking at in the event that Gentoo screwed me!

Still...the name sounds a bit too aggressive!

Does portage send down the server or workstation version of WOLK?

AFAIK, the workstation sources. But anyway, you can tweak this during

Code: Select all

make menuconfig

So, what's wrong with them?

...well, the kernel sort of finished compiling, but it didn't produce a kernel image, nor did it produce any errors...

ME!!!! I'm upset, very.

1.2 install guide recomended XFS, and now they just dropped. I'm locked with 2.4.20-gentoo-r1. I WON'T INSTALL XFS-SOURCES.

I guess I'll have to wait 'til 2.6 comes out :-)
