Hi all,
while attempting to emerge -NuD world the systems tryies to

Code: Select all

Emerging (1 of 1) sys-apps/portage-2.1.3.9 to /
waits for a minute and returns
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/emerge", line 5676, in ?
retval = emerge_main()
File "/usr/bin/emerge", line 5669, in emerge_main
myopts, myaction, myfiles, spinner)
File "/usr/bin/emerge", line 5136, in action_build
retval = mergetask.merge(pkglist, favorites, mtimedb)
File "/usr/bin/emerge", line 3273, in merge
prev_mtimes=ldpath_mtimes)
File "/usr/lib/portage/pym/portage.py", line 3747, in doebuild
if need_distfiles and not fetch(
File "/usr/lib/portage/pym/portage.py", line 2508, in fetch
waiting_msg=waiting_msg)
File "/usr/lib/portage/pym/portage_locks.py", line 78, in lockfile
fcntl.lockf(myfd,fcntl.LOCK_EX|fcntl.LOCK_NB)
IOError: [Errno 5] Input/output error

Follow advises from this Forum, I gave

Code: Select all

emerge --sync
emptied

Code: Select all

rm -rf /var/tmp/portage
but all unsuccessfully.
Throughout the Forum there isn't any related post.
Any idea?

my guess is that portage was calculating all the stuffu need to update and dependancies and came across a
loop of some kind and then decided to break out of the process. My suggestion is to read the rev-dep sticky
first on emerging portage, then issue the

Code: Select all

emerge -av portage
command and from there run the rev-dep scripts, then
issue the command u initially attempted to do.

Issued

Code: Select all

revdep-rebuild
after

Code: Select all

emerge -av portage
but nothing helped, the problem remains. Any suggestions?

IOError: [Errno 5] Input/output error
did you run out of space on /var perhaps?

I have the same type of problem after doing a revdep-rebuild.

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/emerge", line 5481, in ?
retval = emerge_main()
File "/usr/bin/emerge", line 5476, in emerge_main
myopts, myaction, myfiles, spinner)
File "/usr/bin/emerge", line 4953, in action_build
ldpath_mtimes, autoclean=1)
File "/usr/bin/emerge", line 3566, in unmerge
vartree=vartree, ldpath_mtimes=ldpath_mtimes)
File "/usr/lib/portage/pym/portage.py", line 3948, in unmerge
ldpath_mtimes=ldpath_mtimes)
File "/usr/lib/portage/pym/portage.py", line 6984, in unmerge
mydbapi=self.vartree.dbapi, vartree=self.vartree)
File "/usr/lib/portage/pym/portage.py", line 3561, in doebuild
mysettings, debug=debug, free=1, logfile=logfile)
File "/usr/lib/portage/pym/portage.py", line 2237, in spawn
mypids.extend(spawn_func(mystring, env=env, **keywords))
File "/usr/lib/portage/pym/portage_exec.py", line 52, in spawn_bash
return spawn(args, opt_name=opt_name, **keywords)
File "/usr/lib/portage/pym/portage_exec.py", line 160, in spawn
raise CommandNotFound(mycommand[0])
portage_exception.CommandNotFound: /bin/bash

For some reason, emerge is killing /bin/bash and /bin/egrep and probably some other fundamental binaries.
No solution yet.
