nagios 2.9 + adding new host nightmare

I got my nagios running with one host being monitored. When I tried to add a second host, it could not appear in the web interface. All that appears is the group and in that group there is nothing! I added the second host in the same file as the first, ie /etc/nagios/hosts.cfg.

Please assist, its my first time to run nagios!!!

correct me if i'm wrong, but don't you have to restart nagios after adding hosts? its been so long since i've used it.

I have restarted but nothing has changed
