Gnome stopped working, maybe python error?

Hi!
After updating a bunch of packages when I returned from holidays my gnome desktop stopped working at all. When loggin in I get an error, that gnome-session didn´t last even 10 sec., but without any information why. Perhaps the reason is that one of the packages that were emerged was the ne python2.5. I run python-update and everything seemes to work fine, but after I logged out of my session an re-logged-in nothing worked anymore. I cant even run progs like gnome-terminal from the XTerm safe-session, but I get no error messages why it doesn´t start anymore...

Code: Select all

Maybe there is some clue

I´m sorry to say thats theres nothing informative in there... The programms (for example gnome-terminal) just exit without any error
message but don´t show up. Maybe I should uninstall python2.5 again and stay with 2.4? Dous 'python-update' also work backwards?

gnome-* and all other python-dependent apps run fine with python25 (it is a good update!!)

you just need to manage the upgrade a bit

1) python-update to re-emerge those apps that install python site-package files into python24 dir
2) revdep-rebuild to re-build those apps that are linked against python24.so

I updated fine and have removed python24 from my system and GNOME-2.18 is working fine \o/
#define HelloWorld int
#define Int main()
#define Return printf
#define Print return
#include <stdio>
HelloWorld Int {
Return("Hello, world!\n");
Print 0;

I´m sorry, but this didn´t worked either. I had python2.5 installed into a new slot, so i unmerged python2.4 and tried a revdep-rebuild, but the script only found a few minor packages like blender linked against python24.so, but nothing crucial in relation to gnome... no i´ve gone back to python2.4 an are still 'python-updating'. I hope it will work again after that... the last resort is to setup my system again...

you shouldn't remove python24 until you have done a python-update AND a revdep-rebuild python-update relies on the old install being present to fn.
removing it and you have to rebuild the dep's youself when they break... ie alot of work
#define HelloWorld int
#define Int main()
#define Return printf
#define Print return
#include <stdio>
HelloWorld Int {
Return("Hello, world!\n");
Print 0;
