Getting sound from video file

Hi!
Does anybody know programm that can get sound from video file and save it, for example, in .mp3 ???

mplayer. Check the man page. Look for dumpaudio or dumpstream.

I have tried it but the generated .mp3 is corrput and it freezes my player when I try to play it.
Maybe there is another programm to do this?
P.S. The video file format is .avi
