Random reboots while playing WoW on Wine

Post by stratman4300 » Wed Aug 01, 2007 3:17 am

Has anyone else experienced random reboots while running WoW on Wine??? I used to run it on ubuntu just fine back in the day, but lately i've it' been rebooting..... It'll lock up for a sec...... then just reboot.

I would like to check heat. Does anyone have a good lm_sensors howto for a ASrock Dual-Sata II mobo???

Do you know what the monitoring chipset on the board is?

Could be just me, but it seems like i get these two lines in syslog everytime it randomly reboots on me.

Code: Select all

Aug  1 01:00:01 DreamMachine cron[11827]: (root) CMD (test -x /usr/sbin/run-crons && /usr/sbin/run-crons )
Aug  1 01:00:01 DreamMachine cron[11829]: (root) CMD (rm -f /var/spool/cron/lastrun/cron.hourly)
any thoughts??? I haven't setup any cron jobs myself..... so i'm not sure as to what it's doing here.

The two longs are normal cron logs and not the issue. My guess is heat and/or power supply.

Check your BIOS when it reboots, very often they have hw temp sensor readings inside the BIOS.

Second, make sure you clean out your fans and heat sinks. Very often they get clogged with dust and don't function as well as they were before.

Finally, if it's a Intel P4 or better, the kernel has a temp throttle monitor that will log to messages/dmesg when the CPU is over temp. Be sure to enable support for that in your kernel if you have it.

Yeah, the reason you just happen to always see cron log messages is because cron is always waking up and running tests to see if it has anything else to do. You'll find tons of those if you look through the whole log.

I believe that the issue was power related....

Cracked my case open.... fans all looked fine. Thermal compound on the proc looked good.

Took out some of the un-neccesary things... old NIC, neons, HD coolers.

Haven't had any rebooting issues since.

Still trying to find a good lm_sensors walkthrough for my board though.... can't seem to get my machine to see thermal_zone in /proc. The directory is just empty... :(
