Change FSB_base_frequency from 133MHz to 100MHz

Kernel not recognizing your hardware? Problems with power management or PCMCIA? What hardware is compatible with Gentoo? See here. (Only for kernels supported by Gentoo.)

Change FSB_base_frequency from 133MHz to 100MHz

Hi. Is it possible to change FSB_base_frequency Table?
My Pentium-M 1,83GHz CPU is running now @800MHz ( 6x133MHz)
I want change the FrontSideBus from 133MHz to 100MHz (6x100MHz)
Why? Lees Power Consuming, Lower the Heat, Longer Battery Time. NO FAN.
In Bios i cant change anything its a Notebook ( Acer 1693 Wlmi )

Yesterday i saw this:
cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/FSB_base_frequency
Base FSB frequency computed from operating points table:
133357 kHz (1867000 / 14)
133333 kHz (1600000 / 12)
133300 kHz (1333000 / 10)
133375 kHz (1067000 / 8)
133333 kHz (800000 / 6)

Is it possible to change this value (anyway)?

Code: Select all

cpufreq-info
cpufrequtils 002: cpufreq-info (C) Dominik Brodowski 2004-2006
Report errors and bugs to linux@brodo.de, please.
analyzing CPU 0:
  driver: centrino
CPUs which need to switch frequency at the same time: 0
  hardware limits: 800 MHz - 1.87 GHz
available frequency steps: 1.87 GHz, 1.60 GHz, 1.33 GHz, 1.07 GHz, 800 MHz
available cpufreq governors: userspace, powersave, performance
current policy: frequency should be within 800 MHz and 800 MHz.
The governor "powersave" may decide which speed to use within this range.
current CPU frequency is 800 MHz (asserted by call to hardware).

Not sure about the table and changing it. Think it is locked to a compatible option to the cpu speed / capabilities.

Intel core solo / duo can go to 100C or about 200F and then start going bad very fast but motherboard has a cutout / slewing thingy that will force it to slow down / shut down before damage / major dmage is done , same with video card. 80C or 160F is close to nasty for any video card in a laptop and has same build in safe guards problem is that when they start slowing stuff down the chips on the motherboard has felt the heat from them and will get warm as well = errors = fan at bottom to compensate.

One guy farts in the room everyone smells it .
(fart = heat in laptop , room = laptop)

Fan speed control ?

You can try to get all the powersaving type programs working propperly as this will then on demand or using the powersaving / performance profile you specified automatically slow it down and only give performance once you need it.

Might also want to look for something to control the fans in the laptop with.
Dell laptops runs with i8kutils / i8kfangui or similar and gkrellms in kde to monitor and control this.
If using KDE there is also in the control panel options for batery and acpi power saving that is controlled / set by kde or something like this.

I buy a fan that I place beneath any new laptop I buy just to give it a bit of extra air and keep the stuff cool that the fans does not keep cool.
Helps me until and after I get the fan speed control programs working propperly in linux or even in windoze.
