hdparm keepsettings not working

Post by xcable » Wed Mar 14, 2007 1:57 pm

The option of keepsettings over reset on my hard disk is not working.

Code: Select all

cerebro2 ~ # hdparm /dev/hda

/dev/hda:
 multcount    =  0 (off)
 IO_support   =  1 (32-bit)
 unmaskirq    =  1 (on)
 using_dma    =  1 (on)
 keepsettings =  0 (off)
 readonly     =  0 (off)
 readahead    = 256 (on)
 geometry     = 38913/255/63, sectors = 625142448, start = 0
To set the keepsettings flag:

Code: Select all

cerebro2 ~ # hdparm -k1 /dev/hda

/dev/hda:
 setting keep_settings to 1 (on)
 keepsettings =  1 (on)
To check the flag :

Code: Select all

cerebro2 ~ # hdparm /dev/hda

/dev/hda:
 multcount    =  0 (off)
 IO_support   =  1 (32-bit)
 unmaskirq    =  1 (on)
 using_dma    =  1 (on)
 keepsettings =  1 (on)
 readonly     =  0 (off)
 readahead    = 256 (on)
 geometry     = 38913/255/63, sectors = 625142448, start = 0
After a reboot...

Code: Select all

cerebro2 ~ # hdparm /dev/hda

/dev/hda:
 multcount    =  0 (off)
 IO_support   =  1 (32-bit)
 unmaskirq    =  1 (on)
 using_dma    =  1 (on)
 keepsettings =  0 (off)
 readonly     =  0 (off)
 readahead    = 256 (on)
 geometry     = 38913/255/63, sectors = 625142448, start = 0
Any ideas? I set the spin down to 10 minutes

Code: Select all

cerebro2 ~ # hdparm -S 120 /dev/hda

/dev/hda:
 setting standby to 120 (10 minutes)
and it works just fine, until a reboot of the server and when the system comes back up the drives never spin down.

Edit /etc/conf.d/hdparm and rc-update add hdparm default :)
