full screen opengl + xfce 4.4.0

hello everyone,

recently i upgraded my desktop to xfce4 4.4.0. the upgrade itself worked just fine but now i have tried to play two games and run into problems. these games are World of Warcraft and City of Heroes, both of which operate as full screen opengl applications. they both start up fine via cedega, and WoW will from wine (but not CoH). they run with good fps at their respective menus, i can interact with everything with the mouse, but not with the keyboard.

in cedega the "Managed" option is checked in both custom profiles, but seems to have no effect. running either game in Desktop mode (not fullscreen) allows the keyboard to work and i can login and play, however, i would like to be able to play fullscreen

anyone have any tips or advice? things to try?

I see the same problems but not with all the games, windowed has no problems but some games when run full screen lose keyboard focus. I'm sure this is a XFCE4.4 bug since it worked with XFCE4.2

HL2 would start but minimize somewhere...you can hear it running but can't find it, doesn't show up in the window list either and need to killall wine on it
HOMM5 - same thing, running but can't get it to focus or show up at all
Morrowind - works fine after clicking it into focus
Jedi Outcast - works fine after clicking it into focus
Fallout2 - after disabling the Managed session it works full screen but gets no keyboard focus
C&C Generals - starts but loses all focus (keyboard and mouse)

Running metacity instead of xfwm4 all these work with no problems

Native games (UT2004, Quake4, Enemy Territory...) don't have any problems at all with xfwm4

Checking around the XFCE team is claiming this is a wine problem when it only seems to BE a problem with xfwm...
apparently since none of the developers run any of these apps that have these problem they can't reproduce it and every other app they try with wine works fine, so therefor there's nothing wrong....

Have you tried running the games on a separate X server. Theres a few scripts available to do this, xlaunch is one I use. I find game performance to be better all round on a separate server.

I've never been able to get anything under cedega to run in a separate xsession (I use xgame for a lot of native games).

But starting another xsession would need extra scripts to keep xfwm4 from running and is just another (long and needless) workaround. It's easier to run beryl-manager and switch WMs with that, but that is just another workaround and does not even come close to touching this problem.

Workarounds are not solutions and are just detours around the problem...be nice to get that bridge fixed so we can use it again

Dunno if its similar to the problem I had. Was previously using gnome 2.18 which worked fine with WoW fullscreen. Switched to XFCE4 and keyboard would not work. For me ended up just being SCIM capturing the keyboard input and not redirecting back to wine. Wondering if maybe you have a similar problem because since I removed SCIM from start up Im playing WoW with wine fullscreen under XFCE4.41 w/beryl with no problems at all.
Side note, I have no idea why it worked in Gnome previously, since I tried going back to gnome when this started happening and found no keyboard input in wine with SCIM running... 8O
