Hello Gentoo World,
I was one of those users about a year ago who gave gentoo a try, complained, swore I would never be back, and loaded Ubuntu. Soon I came to a relization that Ubuntu is great for a beginner, but crapy if you want to customize it to give it a personal feel. Switched to Debian, liked it, but strongly disliked the speed. It is slow because of all the extra crap packed into the binaries for cross compatability.
So. . . . . I loaded gentoo on my Dell laptop. It took awhile to compile gnome and X but after getting it all installed and running, I found my OS again. I love the way gentoo runs so quickly and smooth that I have wondered why I switched in the first place. After a couple minutes of careful consideration, I determined that I just didn't know sh*t about Linux and had to use the hand holding distros like Ubuntu. Now that I have a better clue, Gentoo is KING. So here I am, once sworn to never return, now ready to do what I can to help.
Props to the developers, keep it coming!!!
