Long lag at "receiving file list ..." prompt [SOLVED]

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

Hi all,

When I do an emerge --sync it has, for some reason, started to take forever to get past the point where it says it's receiving the file list. It just hangs there and there's no activity (no cursor spinning, etc.). Here's what it looks like:

Code: Select all

>>> Starting rsync with rsync://209.177.148.226/gentoo-portage...
>>> Checking server timestamp ...

Please note: common gentoo-netiquette says you should not sync more
than once a day. Users who abuse the rsync.gentoo.org rotation
may be added to a temporary ban list.

This is a new problem that has started just yesterday. I cannot think of anything that's changed. Other network processes seem to be working as expected. Any ideas?

Hi,

They turned off some feedback awhile ago. I doubt you are frozen, just receiving 145123 as of about 24 hours ago. :)

You can put

Code: Select all

PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS="--progress"
in /etc/make.conf to recreate some of the older behaviour
