OpenVPN questions

  • Quote

Post by DieselPower » Sun Dec 03, 2006 2:35 am

I am new to OpenVPN, and had a couple of wild ideas!

I have a server with two ip-addresses. Could I run a VPN between it and my home server(on dialup) and have a static ip address on my home server?

How good is the compression? Would it be worth installing it on both my servers and tunneling over dialup with compression for better speeds at home?

Thanks!
Lawrence
I have it my way no matter what, and I build it every time, 'cause they don't sell them that way. A genius is always has what he wants, but a rich person does not. I'm a rich kid with no money! That's why I chose Gentoo...

Thanks!

I have a NoIP account setup already, and my main reason for setting up OpenVPN was for the compression. If I could gain another 2 or 3 Mb/s on downloads I'd jump on it. In fact I already have, I just can't get it to work properly yet. OpenVPN starts on both machines and seems to create a VPN between them, but I cannot ping the other machines VPN ip address.

My home server gets kicked offline every eight hours, so I don't think that DNS latency will be a problem.
