php -> socket -> flash. Works under windows, not under linux

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

I have a flash-"animation" that basically only looks for a socket to connect to on localhost, and the displays the text that localhost is sending over the socket.
The "server" is a php-script. Everything works great on windows (where I first tested this cause I can't get flash running with wine) but then I copy the files and try to run it here, and flash can no longer connect to my server.

Has anyone had any experience with flash and sockets at all, and have any idea what this could be about? I made the swf for flash 7, so I don't use the new hardmasked flashplayer. I use port 8009, so it's >1024.

It doesn't seem to have anything to do with flash, because with the server under linux all clients fail to connect, both windows and linux.

Anyone happens to know about an open alternative to flash btw? :-)

There are several attemps to duplicate flash (one of which is Gnash), but none of them are very mature or even stable enough for real use.

So it doesn't work now that the server is on linux? I would suggest checking your iptables config to make sure you aren't blocking the connection.

hope that points you in the right direction.
