Xmms AAC / MP4 Plugins?

Help with creation, editing, or playback of sounds, images, or video. Amarok, audacious, mplayer, grip, cdparanoia and anything else that makes a sound or plays a video.

Xmms AAC / MP4 Plugins?

  • Quote

Post by svkelley » Wed Apr 30, 2003 12:32 am

Are there any plugins for Xmms that can play AAC / MP4 encoded
audio files? I was able to use Grip and Faac to encode some AAC
files. I can generate a wav file using Faad. But I would really
like to be able to use an Xmms plugin.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Sean

AFAIK there isn't an AAC or MP4 Plugin for xmms in portage.

I have an ebuild for an aac plugin in bugzilla, but it won't play mp4 or m4a files.

The author of the above plugin has written an mp4 plugin, but i'm having trouble creating a working ebuild...

The AAC encoder faac takes the bitrate in bits per second rather than kbits per second
so I had to hardcode the bitrate:

Here are my settings:

/usr/bin/faac

-m 4 -o LC -b 128000 %w %m

it's too bad xmms has terrible aac support. are there any other media players out there that support aac? (the more natively, the better.)

mpd supports aac, and it's a great music library. On the other hand, if you want to play individual files, it's not ideal. I personally have mpd for my main music collection and bmp with bmp-mp4 (~x86) for playing occasional individual files.
