weird gdm startup (starts twice ?? )

on my laptop my gdm is getting weird.

is starts nearly complete, in order to produce a black screen for one or two seconds, and then it is a normal gdm loaded and ready.

what causes this behavior? and how can i solve it?

I'm having the same problem with gdm on my laptop. X starts, gives me the gray screen with the mouse, then it dies and goes back to shell, then starts up again and lets me log in. It's extremely annoying, and any help would be appreciated

I've had this same issue in 2.14 and 2.16. No resolution yet though.

simple but dirty workaround

rc-update del xdm

and than add
"gdm" to the local.start file

but as i said: dirty

Updated my 2.14.x to 2.16 - the same behavior.
