Free online games

Hi!

What good multiplayer-online-games do you now with free server access? I played freeciv a few minutes ago and it's easy to connect to other human players which makes gaming much more interesting.

Do you know some other free games with such an option?

It depends on what you're looking for exactly. Basically, however, there are some good posts for games in the forums, just do a search and you can come up with some rather good lists.

Personally, I would recommend checking out:

Planeshift (still in development, however)
The Mana World (Might still be in development, but very playable
or
Eternal Lands

If you're interested in spending a few bucks, and have a decent graphics card, I would HIGHLY recommend checking out Savage. I have yet to purchase this game (only tried the demo so far) but the entire concept, graphics and gameplay just blow my mind 8O

Cube is also fun, but I think you'll have problems downloading it from portage. I hear that there is a serious upstream vulnerability with it. Kinda sad, as I had fun playing it.

Oh, also check out legends.

Sauerbraten is great. You can find the latest ebuild in Gentoo Bugzilla. It has an advanced Geometry/In-Game map editing which you can do online with other human players.

Tremulous (Standalone version not in portage, check Gentoo Bugzilla) is a RTS/FPS Alien V.S. Human game.

Warzone2100 is a great free RTS and it's in portage. Online play and all.

Eternal Lands is a nice MMORPG.

Warsow, in Gentoo Bugzilla is great.

Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory and the True Combat: Elite modification.

Wesnoth: Great turn-based strategy game with tons of people online.

Counter-strike 1.6 is the best game, Do not even think about buying Counter-Strike: source. Its hard, I played it once, but i was really getting PWNED, so thats why I say that 1.6 is better than Source.

PaveQ:
Do you know of any screenshots of Utopia? It sounds interesting (well, at least their homepage and tutorial look kinda neat) but I can't find any shots of the game.

There is a new version of XShipWars out. I hope it means the game is making a come-back.

It's a Windows game and requires a paid copy of Half-Life.
