No Sound After Live CD Install

I installed Gentoo from the live cd and all went well except for the sound card - it wasn't detected and configured. I thought the live cd kernel had the alsa drivers already configured. When I run lspci it lists the sound card, but there are no devices configured and no alsa drivers installed. When I run lsmod there are no sound modules installed. Do I have to recompile the whole kernel? I know the sound card works under other distros like Ubuntu and Mandrake. Any help would be appreciated.

Did you follow this? http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/alsa-guide.xml
If you didn't compile the drivers you can always do alsa-driver way without recompiling.
