Help with creation, editing, or playback of sounds, images, or video. Amarok, audacious, mplayer, grip, cdparanoia and anything else that makes a sound or plays a video.

Hi there,

recently installed Banshee (0.10.10) with following line:

Code: Select all

USE="aac doc daap ipod flac mad njb vorbis mp3" emerge banshee
output of /etc/portage/package.keywords:
media-sound/banshee ~amd64
media-libs/gst-plugins-good ~amd64
media-libs/gst-plugins-base ~amd64
media-libs/gstreamer ~amd64
dev-dotnet/gconf-sharp ~amd64
dev-dotnet/glade-sharp ~amd64
dev-dotnet/gtk-sharp ~amd64
dev-dotnet/gnome-sharp ~amd64
dev-dotnet/art-sharp ~amd64
dev-dotnet/gnomevfs-sharp ~amd64
media-plugins/gst-plugins-flac ~amd64
media-plugins/gst-plugins-gconf ~amd64
media-libs/gst-plugins-ugly ~amd64
media-plugins/gst-plugins-lame ~amd64
media-plugins/gst-plugins-faad ~amd64
media-libs/libipoddevice ~amd64
dev-dotnet/ipod-sharp ~amd64
dev-dotnet/njb-sharp ~amd64
media-plugins/gst-plugins-faac ~amd64
net-dns/avahi ~amd64
media-plugins/gst-plugins-mad ~amd64
/etc/portage/package.keywords lines 1-26/26 (END)
Output of ipod --list:
Path Info
Device Path: /dev/sda3
Mount Point: /media/ipod
Control Path: /media/ipod/iPod_Control/
HAL ID: /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/volume_uuid_952B319BC61D4616

But although everything seems to be right, banshee still resists to detect the ipod. There is one interesting message in the log:
Could not connect to D-Bus: D-Bus support will be disabled for this instance: Object reference not set to an instance of an object

Do you have dbus running (even though I'm not sure if it's required to use ipod with banshee)?

What's the output of "ps -A|grep dbus"?

i've got the same problem as wo7ke. i started here (http://patches.ximian.com/Troubleshooting/iPod), but my iPod passes all those tests just fine.

i have two nodes in hal-device-manager as mentioned, ipod --list gives me the following:

Code: Select all

glibtop: This machine has 1 CPUs, 1 are being monitored.
Path Info
   Device Path: /dev/sda2
   Mount Point: /media/SOGPOD II

banshee was (in theory) installed w/ ipod support:

Code: Select all

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild R ] media-sound/banshee-0.10.10-r3 USE="ipod mad vorbis -aac -daap -debug -doc -flac -njb" 0 kB

Total size of downloads: 0 kB

Would you like to merge these packages? [Yes/No]
dmesg is giving me some sort of SCSI I/O error, but the device is mounted and i can cut and paste from the ipod filesystem.

but banshee doesn't show the device as being present in any form. any thoughts?

think i've figured it out. temporarily giving up on Banshee, i installed gtkpod and had it try to read my ipod database - it failed, because it was looking at /mnt/ipod rather than /dev/sda2 where it was. after doing a

Code: Select all

mount /dev/sda2 /mnt/ipod
and reloading Banshee, i can now see my ipod. sweetness!

@sog:

You solved the problem , just by changing the mount point ? This did not work for me out, unfortunately.[/quote]

Did you also have the problems with the dbus connection within banshee ?

Tried to open the programm with strace, and had some rather strange result, have look below:
open("/usr/share/pixmaps/xorg-x11/default/cursors/hand1", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
4305 brk(0xf5d000) = 0xf5d000
4306 brk(0xf7f000) = 0xf7f000
4307 brk(0xf7d000) = 0xf7d000
4308 brk(0xf7b000) = 0xf7b000
4309 brk(0xf6d000) = 0xf6d000
4310 brk(0xf6b000) = 0xf6b000
4311 --- SIGSEGV (Segmentation fault) @ 0 (0) ---
4312 rt_sigreturn(0x414c1b47) = 0
4313 write(1, "Warning: [06/09/2006 16:08:26] ("..., 164Warning: [06/09/2006 16:08:26] (Could not connect to D-Bus) - D-Bus support will be disabled for this instance: Object r eference not set to an instance of an object) = 164
4314 write(1, "\n", 1
4315 ) = 1

Well, it seems that i have some severe problems somewhere else ...

hmm i recommend you to remove any ipod entries on fstab if you are using gnome and let GVM/hal/dbus do all work.
