hello

I want to install emacspeak for my blind father.
But i am stopped at the emerge of tclx
I have the following error

checking for sys/filio.h... no
checking FIONBIO vs. O_NONBLOCK for nonblocking I/O... ./configure: line 7349: syntax error near unexpected token `('
./configure: line 7349: ` case `(ac_space=' '; set | grep ac_space) 2>&1` in'

!!! Please attach the config.log to your bug report:
!!! /var/tmp/portage/tclx-8.3.5/work/tcl8.4.6/unix/config.log

!!! ERROR: dev-tcltk/tclx-8.3.5 failed.

I have searched all over the net and i don't find the same error.

Can somebody help me?

I have the exact same problem with tclsx while trying to emerge another app.
Looks like tclx config is broke. I am not smart enough to try and fix it yet.
Hopefully we'll have a solution soon.
If at first you don't succeed; call it version 1.0

Waaaaaaaaaa same problem here!
I see no related bugs reported on bugzilla...

The funny thing is that I have exactly the same versions of tclx and emacspeak on another machine and the configure script runs perfeclty there.
I really don't understand what is going on.
Could this be related to different USE variables or different CFLAGS ???

Update: as my need of using emacspeak is mainly for testing proposes, and considering that I'm not using X at all, I did emerge --nodeps emacpeak... It works fairly well, I haven't noticed any difference between my two systems. Does anyone know why emacspeak need tclx?

Ok, after some google-ing on the error, I got lucky and hit something where a guy was having a similar error with a different program. It turns out bash 3.1 is the culprit, the configure script for our package has some faulty quotes, and previous versions of bash are apparently a lot more lenient. So...

Code: Select all

echo "app-shells/bash-3.0 ~x86" >> /etc/portage/packages.keywords
emerge bash-3.0
... this downgrade worked like a charm for me, no more emerge problems.
