Sony VAIO - Sound works but low volume

  • Quote

Post by tom_bxl » Sat Apr 29, 2006 5:16 pm

Hi Everyone,

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FS315S and everything just works fine. I face a strange problem with sound, volume is just low. I'm using alsa module snd_hda_intel from the kernel (gentoo-sources 2.6.15) and have set the mixer volumes to maximum. But sound remains desperatly low. I have re-installed Windows for testing the sound and it's much louder (I quickly removed Windows after  )

Does anyone face the same issue?

Thx,

Tom

Pyxel,

this is the point. I have set the volume to maximum for everything in alsa mixer but the sound remains low. I also set it to maximum where I can, alsa, Sony Fn key, gnome. I can hear the sound but the volume remains much lower than in Windows.

hmm, strange.

try this:
1. In the file /etc/hotplug/blacklist add a line at the bottom with: snd_intel8x0m
3. In the file /etc/modules add on two separate lines:
snd_ac97_codec
snd_intel8x0
(and delete snd_hda_intel)

save, and reboot.

NB: and don't forget to mute the External Amplifier in the mixer.

yeah well, first of all the intel chipset sucks. I too have found that windows makes it louder but this is recent as when I was first using my vaio at the beginning of te year, my linux partition played sound with a higher volume than windows. I'm using the stable emerged drivers, not the in-kernel.
