Post by lo-jay » Thu Apr 27, 2006 3:40 pm

was finally able to get audacity-1.3.0b to compile on my amd64 box ( earlier versions
wouldn't compile at all...)
but now i get:

Code: Select all

There was an error initializing the audio i/o layer.
You will not be able to play or record audio.

Error: Host error.
part of the shell output:

Code: Select all

# audacity

(audacity:19478): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: instance of invalid non-instantiatable type `(null)'

(audacity:19478): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_signal_handlers_disconnect_matched: assertion `G_TYPE_CHECK_INSTANCE
(instance)' failed

(audacity:19478): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: instance of invalid non-instantiatable type `(null)'

(audacity:19478): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_signal_handlers_disconnect_matched: assertion `G_TYPE_CHECK_INSTANCE

ideas very welcome!

thanks again!

Do you have the oss use flag on? If not you won't have OSS emulation loaded at bootup by alsa-utils, and so you need to start audacity as

Code: Select all

aoss audacity
to load the emulation and make the OSS sound devices availably to audacity.
This also assumes you don't have a sound daemon getting in the way, in which case you may need

Code: Select all

esddsp audacity
artsdsp audacity
or whatever.
