X with selectable graphics cards?

Hey all,
Just got myself an Alienware M5500 Laptop, but have a question about installing gentoo on it.
It has hardware selectable graphics cards, an internal Intel 915 and an external nVidia 6600.
Is there anyway I can set X up so that it will detect which is in use at boot and use the correct drivers?
Cheers for any help.

you could probably get away with having 2 card sections in your xorg.conf and let x either try to start both or have a simple boot-time script (/etc/init.d) that "generates" an xorg.conf just before xdm starts (or ifyou don't use xdm, right before login starts) -- both should be pretty simple to do
Y'know, somewhere along the line, my brain got wired directly to my fingers .. I'm not even consulted anymore in the decision making processes.
