I just installed gentoo on an amd-k6 300 with 256mb ram, and an ati rage128 card (it might be a 16 meg card, but I really don't kow for sure). It's got a 20 gig drive, so space isn't an issue.
I was looking through the games section of portage, and I'm wondering what I should install for games.
Obviously, they can't be hardware intensive, but I'd take any suggestions. I think I'll start out with a nintendo emulator, and work from there. I've got a gamepad so I'd like to use that for some too.
So, what games should I install?
If you really want to go completely retro, try bsd-games. These are text-based games that have been around on UNIX systems for years, even decades in some cases. No graphics or sound, and typed commands for gameplay, not to mention your system is so much faster than the computers these games originally ran on.
You could probably even get away with a SNES emulator. I was able to run one quite acceptably on a G3 233MHz so that would probably translate to a 300MHz x86 machine.
