I found that there is a Linux port of AvP

http://icculus.org/avp/

I already made an ebuild for it, you need the original windows version to play (or the demo)

Instructions are in the README.gz in the documentation to install the windows files.

OMG!!! i don't have an AvP disc anymore.............nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

I used to love that game, might try and borrow a friends disc and give this a try.

another port from icculus, they made a really good work, I play serious sam 1 & 2 with their port and it's really great

According to the README, you need the game installed on Windows or Wine or whatever to get access to
the required files.

I installed the game, made a copy of the required files on one of my linux boxes and installed these files on all of my other Gentoo boxes

Ok, tell me if I did this correctly. I downloaded your ebuild, and put it in /usr/portage/app-games/avp/

Then I downloaded the "files/avp" file and put it in /usr/portage/app-games/avp/files/ Then i issued the following command as root:

emerge ./usr/portage/app-games/avp/avp-cvs-20030314.ebuild

and I got the following error:

Calculating dependencies \emerge: create(): aux_get() error on app-games/avp-cvs-20030314; aborting...

put the ebuild in avp-cvs dir -- that should work.

Ok, bought the AvP windows disc over the weekend, had a quick go in windows to remind myself how good this is...

Does anyone have this working in Gentoo and how does it play? any bugs ? The Icculas page mentions that it's not ready!!

Just some reports would be nice before i start trying to install

Ok, the emerge compiled no problem. I wasn't sure which files need to be renamed to lower case. Do any directories need to be renamed as well? Anyways, after renaming a few files and directories, I was immediately greeted with an sdl segfault when I tried to run it.

Well I just got Serious Sam 2 to work using the icculus.org executable and all I can say is: WOW!

I wish more Windows games would work using SDL/OpenGL rather than DirectX (although I can see why these use this as well; its equally if not more powerful than OpenGL AND can be ported to XBox), making conversions like this pretty trivial I would image.

No offense to any of the gentoo dev's, but good luck getting it put into the tree.. The games updates have been having some problems.

I'm still trying to convince them to put the ADOM build that Andre Lorhs create back 12/18 of last year into portage.... (Bugzilla Bug 12368 for anyone's that interested)
