Assign icon for each app in fluxbox

Hello everyone,

In fvwm it's easy to assign your favouriate icons for each app with "Style app Icon xxx.png". How can I do the same job with fluxbox?

Thanks

Nick

Where do you expect to see the icons? Fluxbox doesn't do desktop icons. You have to use something like idesk to get them.

I sit corrected.

I never really thought about those icons. In fact, I've been meaning to figure out which setting in init stops them from being displayed at all. (That was easy, right click, icon bar mode, uncheck show pictures)

I hope you find your answer.

This works fine for applications who contain theire own icons, such as firefox, rox etc.
But there are other applications who do not contain such icons, such as xterm. So I want to force an icon to xterm.

I know this isn't exactly what you're looking for, but it's easy enough to add 'em to menu items. All you need to do is fire up your favorite text editor and add a line like so to ~/.fluxbox/menu:

Code: Select all

[exec] (Gaim) {/usr/bin/gaim} </usr/share/pixmaps/gaim-menu.xpm>
You can find a screenshot of my old flux desktop here. You may also wanna look into the starterbar gdesklet. Kinda like an OSX launcher bar. Easy as hell to add app's. If you're feeling really adventurous, you could also look into the engage module from here. It works flawlessly as a stand-alone app in fluxbox. Find out how to install e17 here and follow a discussion or two or three on these forums.

Happy fluxing

Ugh. It's been so long that I've actually forgotten. I believe that at the time, I was using Artwiz, but I may be mistaken.
