My apache server always starts automatically.

I stopped the server by

Code: Select all

/etc/init.d/apache stop,
and go out for one or two hours. After I came back, looked at the system process by

Code: Select all

ps ax
I see 4 apache processes were running.

I tried to shut it down again by

Code: Select all

/etc/init.d/apache stop
However, the system told me that

Code: Select all

the http service hasn't been started yet
OK. Then I tried

Code: Select all

/etc/init.d/apache start
The system told me

Code: Select all

The http service already started
I am so confused.

Code: Select all

apache-2.0.54-r14
 +apache2 -debug -doc -ldap -mpm-leader -mpm-peruser -mpm-prefork -mpm-threadpool -mpm-worker -no-suexec (-selinux) +ssl -static-modules -threads

This might not be helpful, but I do recall there being a

Code: Select all

/etc/init.d/apache2 zap
to forcefully kill it. I'd say go through your /var/log/apache2/error_log and see if it's segfaulting or something.

zap for any service in init.d is to reset the status...e.g. if the service died but it didn't realize it.
while(true) {self.input(sugar);} :twisted:
