Hi i try to installed a program (source code) not in portage and i get the following error:

Code: Select all

checking for IceConnectionNumber in -lICE... yes
checking for libXext... yes
checking for pthread_create in -lpthread... yes
checking for extra includes... no
checking for extra libs... no
checking for libz... -lz
checking for libpng... -lpng -lz -lm
checking for libjpeg6b... no
checking for libjpeg... -ljpeg
checking for perl... /usr/bin/perl
checking for Qt... libraries /usr/qt/3/lib, headers /usr/qt/3/include using -mt
checking for moc... /usr/qt/3/bin/moc
checking for uic... /usr/qt/3/bin/uic
checking whether uic supports -L ... yes
checking whether uic supports -nounload ... yes

checking for KDE... configure: error:
in the prefix, you've chosen, are no KDE headers installed. This will fail.
So, check this please and use another prefix!
I have kde 3.4.2.Where can i find the headers?

mod edit: removed a bunch of exclamation marks in the subject line. --Earthwings

Hi!
The kde headers are installed in:

Code: Select all

/usr/kde/3.x/include/
Where 3.x is your version of kde. (ie 3.3, 3.4, etc)

The easiest way to compile a non portage kde program is to pass --prefix=/usr/kde/x.x/ to configure:

Code: Select all

$ ./configure --prefix=/usr/kde/3.4/
Although note that is not the only solution and probably not the best.
Better is to write (or get someone to write) an ebuild for the application and submit it to portage :D

An excellent ebuild writing guide can be found here: http://dev.gentoo.org/~plasmaroo/devmanual/

What program are you trying to install? (A fair amount of programs on http://kde-apps.org/ have unofficial ebuilds, and there are also a lot of third party ebuilds in the forums)
