trying gimp with gimp-print-5

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

trying gimp with gimp-print-5

I have gimp-2.0.6 and would like to try to upgrade to 2.2.7. However, I have an Epson printer than needs gimp-print-5 rather than the 4.2 (or whatever). So I have it working with the 5 beta version. If I try to emerge the latest gimp with --nodeps, it complains with the following error. The error is informative but I don't know how to set the GIMPPRINT_CONFIG environment variable to the *** full path to gimpprint-config.

Code: Select all

checking for gimpprint-config... no
checking for GIMP-PRINT - version >= 4.2.0... no
*** The gimpprint-config script installed by GIMP-PRINT could not be found
*** If GIMP-PRINT was installed in PREFIX, make sure PREFIX/bin is in
*** your path, or set the GIMPPRINT_CONFIG environment variable to the
*** full path to gimpprint-config.
configure: error:
*** Check for libgimpprint failed. You can download it from
*** http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/ or you can build without it by passing
*** --disable-print to configure (but you won't be able to print then).

!!! Please attach the config.log to your bug report:
!!! /var/tmp/portage/gimp-2.2.7/work/gimp-2.2.7/config.log

!!! ERROR: media-gfx/gimp-2.2.7 failed.
I'm researching this and may find it on my own, but if anyone wants to help save me some time, I would be very grateful.

cheers, Hunky

ok, I've narrowed it down to a bug in the gimp ebuild. I think someone else has already filed a bug on it. In the ebuild, it specifies that gimp use the gimp-print-4.2* version. So my question is, how to fix it? I tried editing the ebuild to use gimp-print-5.0*, but it fails on the md5 verification. How do you edit an ebuild and get it to pass the verification?

cheers, Hunky

add -strict to the FEATURES in make.conf

Ok, learned something there. Hadn't used FEATURES before. It worked to get by the md5 check. But even with the line in the ebuild changed to gimp-print-5.0*, gimp emerge still looks for the gimp-print-4.2.0 and errors out with the same error message as above. I'll look for that bug and see if there's a clue what to do. I'm missing something simple here. I did a search for the gimpprint-config on my system and it did not find it - despite having emerged gimp-print-5.0.3-beta.

Thanks for the info. Cheers, Hunky
