Headless K7M Boot

  • Quote

Post by ba747heavy » Thu May 19, 2005 2:06 am

I'm trying to get a headless router working. The server is 100% functional if I have a video card and monitor attached, but if I remove the monitor/video card (which I want to do for power consumption reasons) the server either hangs in the POST stage or the linux boot stage (I can't tell which). I am using an Asus K7M, and google isn't telling me how or if the K7M can boot up that way.

In my machine, I had to look into the bios setup. There was an option in there ( don't remember what it was.. maybe net boot or some such.) I enabled that and it has worked. I didn't remove the video card, but the only thing the computer is connected to is the network and power.

Appreciate that bit of advice, but it still won't boot up without the video card in the system. Really starting to irritate me, because I do not want to go out and purchase a videocard for this thing. I assumed I could get it booting without a vid card so I stole a card from one of my other machines to run the install on.

It's probably stopping at the linux boot phase, when init brings up the ttys. It can't find a video card so it stalls setting them up. Edit /etc/inittab to your liking.
word.
