Accidently Deleted Entire Partition

Post by NetHawl » Mon May 09, 2005 4:36 pm

Hi,
As the titel shows, I accidently deleted a ReiserFS partiton, or to say it correctly 2. of them.....
My Configuration is:
40 GB ---> Entirely for Linux (Gentoo), its all ReiserFS
200 GB ---> For Videos, Music, etc.

I deleted the 200 GB Disk, it was like that:
/dev/hdb1 ----> 200 GB Extended
/dev/hdb5 ----> 98 GB ReiserFS
/dev/hdb6 ----> 93 GB ReiserFS

I borrowed the Disk to a Friend, and he deleted the 98 GB partition, whats OK, because there was nothing on it.
But as I became the disk back, it showed me:

bash-2.05b# fdisk /dev/hdb

The number of cylinders for this disk is set to 24792.
There is nothing wrong with that, but this is larger than 1024,
and could in certain setups cause problems with:
1) software that runs at boot time (e.g., old versions of LILO)
2) booting and partitioning software from other OSs
(e.g., DOS FDISK, OS/2 FDISK)

Command (m for help): p

Disk /dev/hdb: 203.9 GB, 203928109056 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 24792 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hdb1 2 24792 199133707+ f W95 Ext'd (LBA)

Ok, so I want to get my partitions back, I have ReiserFS Tools.
PLS. guys help me!
My Eyes are hot of reading all the manuals, but nothing helped me.

This has nothing to do with your filesystem (reiserfs).

You can recover your partitions, you just have to restore the exact MBR and extended partitions as they were before (and next time save the output of "fdisk -l" to make this easier). It worked twice for me.

Try http://www.stud.uni-hannover.de/user/76201/gpart/ , a program that searches your disk for signatures that look like partitions and writes a new partition table. You can try as often as you want, just don't write on the disk except to the partition table."
