I do have bzip2 emerge'ed.

<EDIT>Well, re-emerging bzip2 fixed the problem. This is a fresh 2005.0 install. Anybody else run into this? Should I file a bug?</EDIT>

Same error here on a new install. File a bug.

Yes, this is one of a myriad of problems I've run into... I'm very disappointed with the current state of a stage 2.
