[SOLVED] Upgrading to 2005.0 on AMD64

  • Quote

Post by Merlin8000 » Tue Apr 05, 2005 11:57 pm

So I checked /usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/amd64/2005.0/README and noticed it had been changed from a message stating that 2005.0 wasn't yet ready to the following

Code: Select all

As of Monday 28th, 2005, this profile has gone stable. All previous
profiles are considered deprecated. Please update to one of the 2005.0
profiles.

For upgrade instructions, please check out the following URL for full
instructions:

http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/base/amd64/2005.0-upgrade-amd64.xml
Here's the thing. the document referenced says it is deprecated. So does that mean that I should go through the same procedure that I would on a x86 system or should I ignore the deprecated warning and follow that guide?

Always willing to help. It might be better to change the title of the thread to have [SOLVED] in the title so people know where to look

Better still, can someone just delete the deprecated link or make it point to the correct file as well?

Just to be sure I understood well, we don't need emul-glibc anymore ? From the docs

Code: Select all

emerge unmerge emul-linux-x86-glibc
But if so, app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-baselibs dependencies are not satisfied anymore and emerge -uD world keep asking me to emerge emul-glibc ... any clue on that one ? or should I just sit tight and wait for new ebuilds of emul packages to manage the new profile change ? ;)

Once you've successfully switched to 2005.0 you should emerge emul-libs-x86-glibc again. It will install version emul-libs-x86-glibc-1000 which is in fact an empty package but ensures you don't run into dependency problems. You do need the other emul-* libraries if you intend to run 32-bit software that depends on gtk, qt and so forth.
