Sound problems (Alsa - XMMS - Mic) [ SOLVED ]

Post by rojanu » Wed Mar 09, 2005 3:03 pm

Hi everyone!

I have problems with my sound, I am running kernel-2.6.10-r6 and my sound card is Intel8x0.

I installed Alsa following Alsa Guide, I get sound when using Juk but XMMS seems to be playing very very ( like playing 2 minutes long file in 4-5 sec). I get no sound on Back speakers at all and Mic doesn't work either.

When playing fish-fillets I get
SDL: Audio timeout - buggy audio driver? (disabled)
audio: Bad file descriptor
SDLSoundAgent.cpp:72: WARNING cannot play sound; Mix='No free channels available
Whenever I change anything in Control Center > Sound & Multimedia > Sound System and hit the apply button, KNotify crashes with no bactracin available.

I appriciate any suggestion!!!
Thanks from now.

I would have a look at 'Testing and Using Sound Tools'
http://www.linux-mag.com/2004-12/sound_01.html
about 2/3rds of the way down the page, aplay etc..

I am afraid no luck there:roll:

Code: Select all

#play SURROUNDTEST_DD_640.wav
returned immediatly with nothing.

Code: Select all

#aplay SURROUNDTEST_DD_640.wav
Hangs and nothing happens then I have to interrupt it with Ctrl+C

Code: Select all

#esdplay SURROUNDTEST_DD_640.wav
ALSA lib pcm_hw.c:1172:(snd_pcm_hw_open) open /dev/snd/pcmC0D0p failed: Device or resource busy
ALSA lib pcm_hw.c:1172:(snd_pcm_hw_open) open /dev/snd/pcmC0D0p failed: Device or resource busy
Thats what happens with esdplay

Had the same problem, however it worked with a new alsa version. Could also try using a kernel where alsa >= 1.0.8 is built in.
Don't forget to mute those IEC-Channels

Try a simple wav test first... the surround one is rather special - i.e. dolby digital, a good one to test your surround sound when it all works! and for the intel8x0 I'm afraid you need to UN-mute and zero the IEC958-Channels, on my system anyway ;-)

Gentoo 2006.0 + NPTL + 2.6.15-r1-sources + gcc 3.4.4 100% built. glibc 2.3.5.
