Epson Stylus C62 and CUPS

  • Quote

Post by Verted » Sat Mar 05, 2005 10:26 pm

I've been having trouble with my Epson Stylus C62 printer. I installed CUPS and foomatic fine. I'm using the Gimp-print driver. When I print something, all that comes out is a whole black page. Anyone heard of this before? Anyone know how it might be fixed?

It's the exact same setup as I had before I reinstalled, and it worked fine before.
Thanks,

Similar problem with my EPSON Stylus C40UX (usb) and 'gimp-print-ijs' (sp?) driver.

Running foomatic-config results in a perl script error (reported in another thread). I have configured the printer using gnome-cups-manager, but the test page results in the top third of the page being black, the rest untouched.

Solved at least the CUPS part!

The default (?) printer settings had "brightness = 0.0" (cups web interface, configure printer). With this both the test page and "lpr test.txt" gave purely black pages . Setting "brightness = 1.0" (cf. other settings, the middle of the range) gives good results.

Didnt resolve discover the foomatic-config perl errors.

Didnt determine why the original set-up printed 1/3 page black (the second attempt at least gave a full page of black! ... not that that was really any better). I did re-emerge cups and foomatic between setups, and restarted cupsd.

Note: After re-emerging cups & foomatic, I could not stop cupsd ("/etc/'init.d/cupsd stop"). I had to kill the process and zap it ("/etc/init.d/cupds zap"), before restarting.
