nvidia & 2.6.10-r6 -- Unresolved Symbols

Post by RinkyDinks_RJ » Thu Feb 03, 2005 7:13 pm

I'm having problems getting the nvidia drivers to work with kernel 2.6.10.

sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-2.6.10-r
media-video/nvidia-kernel-1.0.6629-r3

When starting X, the driver craps out with these errors:

I thought fb* symbols might have something to do with framebuffer, so I recompiled the kernel dropping support for all those. After I remerged the nvidia-kernel it still is giving me these errors. Any ideas?

I assume that you first emerged kernel-2.6.10 and then nvidia driver.
Kernel 2.6.10 is known to have problems with nvidia 6629 drivers. You may have to patch manually nvidia-kernel before installing it. Check this post:

I have the same problems as you do, but am using kernel 2.6.7 8O

nvidia is completely borked for me, for the first time in a long time.

Hope a new release will sort this out!!

I fixed this but don't remember what I did. If I do happen to remember I'll post back here.

I'm having these issues as well after upgrading to 6.8.2 (I tried cvs too). These errors have to do with the nvidia X video driver module, not the kernel module, so recompiling that will not fix anything. I guess xorg changed some of the internals around and we'll probably have to wait for a new release from nvidia to fix it.

Any other news on this? I'm getting the exact same thing with the "nvidia" driver in my xorg.conf, but if I use the "nv" driver I get a screen at least but GLX runs way to damn slow. I'm also using xorg 7, the reason is I want to try XGL.

here is my output from glzinfo |grep direct

Code: Select all

~ $ glxinfo |grep direct
direct rendering: No
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect
Here is my xorg error log. as you can see it's the same error.

Hi,
if you need old nVidia drivers because you have a tnt* or <=gforce2 card install the 7174 version. I got these "nvidia_drv.o is unresolved" error messages with 6629 and Xorg7.0, too. 7174 works fine.
bug 130944 was submitted, because 6629 is stil listed in the nVidia guide
