portage on FreeBSD

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

portage on FreeBSD

Post by XST1 » Thu Feb 03, 2005 2:21 am

I really enjoy using portage. Its the only package manager i've ever used, and I don't think I can live without it. Point being, theres a couple of tutorials off the dev-gentoo site (http://dev.gentoo.org/~ka0ttic/doc/fbsd-install.html or http://dev.gentoo.org/~g2boojum/bsd.html) which point to a way to get portage working on FreeBSD. I have yet to try out FreeBSD and before I do I was wondering if anyone has had any success with getting portage working with FreeBSD. I'm just wondering this out of curosity, I have no problem if a moderator believes this post has nothing to do with gentoo and wants to close it down.

Im sure that it cant be too hard as its a derivitive of freebsds ports system. Why not just use that? (You can also use portage on osX)

emerge freebsd-sources does not work :(
# emerge freebsd-sources
Calculating dependencies ...done!
>>> emerge (1 of 1) sys-kernel/freebsd-sources-5.3 to /

!!! Digest verification Failed:
!!! /usr/portage/distfiles/freebsd-sources-5.3.tar.bz2
!!! Reason: Filesize does not match recorded size
emerge sync and redownloading freebsd-sources does not solve the problem
ls -all /usr/portage/distfiles/freebsd-sources-5.3.tar.bz2
-rw-rw-r-- 1 root portage 13250720 Feb 5 23:06 /usr/portage/distfiles/freebsd-sources-5.3.tar.bz2

There are no FreeBSD sources ...

Hello there,

I'm not quite sure where to post this but I installed portage on FreeBSD 5.3 and that went well. Installing a minimal FreeBSD system is very easy after having performed several stage 1 Gentoo installations ;-).

On FreeBSD I can emerge sync and that's about it. Whenever I try to compile something I get:

!!! Digest verification Failed:
!!! /usr/portage/distfiles/freebsd-sources-5.3.tar.bz2
!!! Reason: Filesize does not match recorded size

I read that whenever an ebuild points to FreeBSD kernel sources the ebuild should be patched to point to /usr/src/sys because there are no FreeBSD kernel sources. But I don't know how to do that ;-).

Cheers,

Robert

Hello there,

the ka0ttic link above gives me a working portage system on FreeBSD-5.3.

I can now

Code: Select all

# emerge sync
and do some installing but

Code: Select all

# emerge system
has never finished succesfuly on my system until now. They are working on it.

Cheers,

Robert
