2004.3 live disk.. via-rhine :(

Having problems with the Gentoo Handbook? If you're still working your way through it, or just need some info before you start your install, this is the place. All other questions go elsewhere.

It seems that the via-rhine module is broke on the live disk has anyone else experienced this?

I went back to a 2004.2 disk and it worked fine.
However I could not do a nptl install due to gettext not building.. One issue after another.

yes, I got it solved now.. I downloaded all the newest stages and what-not before the install.. I was trying to do it with 2004.2 disk stage1.. I think that was my issue. thanks

I lied! :D Somehow my make.conf was not updated and I did not do the bootstrap with nptl. I noticed this during a emerge system.

So, I than set myself up with a ssh'able live disk and from work today tried again.. But of course like Duck-Billed Platypus said I need a 2.6 kernel.

My situation

2004.3 Live disk I have no network .. via-rhine does not work.
2004.2 Default kernel is a 2.4
2004.2 smp again via-rhine does not work.

What do I do.. I always compile my nic card into my kernel so I am not sure if I am loading all the modules needed.

Code: Select all

modprobe via-rhine
do a lsmod I see it and mii I think it is but still no network.. dhcpd myself try to set up a static notta nothing.

Any ideas.
