Moving from Slackware 10 to Gentoo

Hey people, I have been using SLackware 10 on my mail/web server for a while and am going to transfer it accross to Gentoo once I can get it installed.

Now the boxen is rather old and a Frankenstein creation from old compaq parts and anything that I could get my hands on. The main issue is the Compaq Smart 2/P Raid Controller and the inability of the boxen to boot from a CDROM drive.

At the moment, it is happily booting from an IDE drive (its only purpose is to hold the MBR) and then loading all of the required drivers.

Now what I need to do is get access to the Gentoo live CD either by using LILO or modifying Tomsrtbt to provide access to the compaq smart array drivers.

The easiest way that I can invision to solve this problem is to use LILO in some fassion to boot the Gentoo LiveCD.

Any and all help would be greately appreciated.

Thanks,
WebmasterMattD

Unfortunantly I want to completely remove my slackware installation.

I don't have enough disk space to do what the guide has suggested.

Thanks for your help anyway,

So I can see both my IDE hd and CDROM from Toms rtbt, though one thing I would like to do (if it is at all possible) is to chroot into the gentoo livecd image from the bootdisk. Any suggestions on how this could be done or if it is even at all possible?

Thanks,

Just mounting the CDROM won't get me through the boot process that is on the CDROM. I need to do this in order to get all the hardware that I have up and running, particularly the raid controller.

Thanks,
