late, grub not using grub.conf after debian install

Having problems with the Gentoo Handbook? If you're still working your way through it, or just need some info before you start your install, this is the place. All other questions go elsewhere.

tried to install ubuntu.
then debian unstable

after reinstalling and rerunning grub:
root (hd0,1)
setup (hd0)
quit

i still get the debian menu.

the debain grub menu is not the same as my /boot/grub.conf

this is a problem. i can manually boot with the grub CLI, but would like a real solution. i skimmed man grub and didn't really see anything pop out.

but isnt menu.1st just a symlink to grub.conf

nice to see other distro's come here for help. is it because we have configure everything ourselfs that we (as a group) know what all configs are for?
#define HelloWorld int
#define Int main()
#define Return printf
#define Print return
#include <stdio>
HelloWorld Int {
Return("Hello, world!\n");
Print 0;

Are you trying to boot Gentoo or Debian?

i think menu.lst is what the bootloader actually uses..

ahh, sorry about that.

i was up until 5am waiting to get to a point for a long emerge glibc kde xorg...

in anycase i installed debain testing. then installed gentoo. grub keeps loading the wrong list of OS's

ok, menu.lst seems to be the new grub.conf...

I'm ok with that, but would like to get it moved back over to normal.

thanks.
