xffm works well for listing and browsing networks, but lacks some of the advanced searching features that smb4k has.

Nautilus support samba.

Type smb://computer/ip to connect.

you have to have the vfs-extra package installed - not done by default
#define HelloWorld int
#define Int main()
#define Return printf
#define Print return
#include <stdio>
HelloWorld Int {
Return("Hello, world!\n");
Print 0;

I have just installed nautilus and it works. Or well, installed GNOME...

And there isn't really a problem to install that package so... :)

I don't like nautilus at all. I use rox is there any way to use that for network browsing.

Thanks for the replies

I just found a nice tool for browsing samba shares.

fusesmb http://hannibal.lr-s.tudelft.nl/~vincent/fusesmb/

it is a userspace filesystem driver for smb shares. It's not in portage, but all it's dependencies are and its really easy and quick to install.
You can use you favorite filebrowser after the install to browse smb shares.

I haven't tested excessively, but it seems to be really nice and quick.
Only problem is that it's early in development (pw protected shares are a problem at the moment)

I always just use LinNeighborhood to mount the samba shares and then you can use any file manager. Works really well and its in portage.

Hope that helps a bit
