[SOLVED] Couldn't download attr-2.4.19.src.tar.gz. Aborting.

Ok, so everytime I try emerge system it tries to download attr-2.4.19.src.tar.gz and fails and gives the error:

Code: Select all

Couldn't download attr-2.4.19.src.tar.gz. Aborting.
And if I look back, it says:

Code: Select all

ftp://oss.sgi.com/projects/xfs/download/cmd_tars/attr-2.4.19.src.tar.gz
(try: 5) => `/usr/portage/distfiles/attr-2.4.19.src.tar.gz'
==> CWD not required.
==> PASV ... done.   ==> RETR attr-2.4.19.tar.gz ... done

[<=>                                  ] 0      --.--K/s
(0.00 B/s) - Data transfer aborted.
Giving up.
Then it gives that error. The strange thing is, oss.sgi.com is not even in my /etc/make.conf for a mirror! What should I do?

after having to reinstall this morning (due to my XFS partition crapping out), i get the same thing....it emerge'd system fine last night.... Strange...But I got around it by emerging a lower version of it...also acl does the same thing, again emerging a lesser version and it's still going so i hope it's just those 2 packages that are messed up right now...

im getting the same thing

at first i thought the problem is that the version on the sgi server was screwed up, so i downloaded it from another source and put it with distfiles, and then even weirder stuff happens

i get an error like this

Code: Select all

#emerge attr
....
The file is already fully retrieved; nothing to do
!!! Couldn't download attr-2.4.19.src.tar.gz
seems a bit contradictory

best bet is probably just to use an older portage tree, the newest ones tend to be buggy

I had the same problem: you can't download attr from that site. This is what I did:

a) Edit /usr/portage/sys-apps/attr/attr-2.4.19.ebuild and change the SRC_URI line to use a mirror:

SRC_URI="ftp://xfs.org/mirror/SGI/cmd_tars/${P}.src.tar.gz"

b) build a new digest with this command:

ebuild attr-2.4.19.ebuild digest

...then the emerge should work.

Also, acl was busted in the same way: change the file /usr/portage/sys-apps/acl/acl-2.2.27.ebuild to this SRC_URI:

SRC_URI="ftp://xfs.org/mirror/SGI/cmd_tars/${P}.src.tar.gz"

...then run...

ebuild acl-2.2.27.ebuild digest

...then emerge.

At least it worked for me.

Aronek

Please put a [SOLVED] in the thread title to indicate that the solution works.

As for the ebuild command, it re-generates the MD5 digest (checksum) of the ebuild and the files in the ebuild's directory, after you have changed any files inside it.

Just want to say thanks Aronek for your fix.... hopefully this'll get fixed soon..

I wonder how broken ebuilds get into portage in the first place :?

Helped me as well, so thanx!
With regards to your question to broken ebuilds, It's even worse when the ebuilds are used when you do an 'emerge system' during your stage 1 installation... Thank g** it's not an unattended installation :P
If printing from other applications fails, too, reinstall your system.
Boot with a Windows boot disk and type on the command line: c:\windows\command\deltree /y c:\windows and then setup.

Appears to be broken again:

Code: Select all

%# ebuild acl-2.2.27.ebuild digest
>>> Resuming download...
>>> Downloading ftp://xfs.org/mirror/SGI/cmd_tars/acl-2.2.27.src.tar.gz
--13:22:11--  ftp://xfs.org/mirror/SGI/cmd_tars/acl-2.2.27.src.tar.gz
           => `/usr/portage/distfiles/acl-2.2.27.src.tar.gz'
Resolving xfs.org... 160.94.232.50
Connecting to xfs.org[160.94.232.50]:21... connected.
Logging in as anonymous ... Logged in!
==> SYST ... done.    ==> PWD ... done.
==> TYPE I ... done.  ==> CWD /mirror/SGI/cmd_tars ...
No such directory `mirror/SGI/cmd_tars'.

!!! Couldn't download acl-2.2.27.src.tar.gz. Aborting.
Is there another mirror that can be used?

Edit:
I found a place that had the tarball, I used this:

Code: Select all

SRC_URI="http://smgl.positivism.org/${P}.src.tar.gz"
Your milage may vary, and up to you if your trust that link. I just googled for "acl-2.2.27.src.tar.gz" and found a bunch of mirrors.

Yes, the xfs.org site is down as well.

And that means those who are about to emerge attr and acl (like me) had better edit their ebuilds again to change their SRC_URIs to http://smgl.positivism.org/${P}.src.tar.gz for example.

That appears to be quite a nice site, storing many linux packages. :-)

It's a pity the source-downloading doesn't use some sort of mirror-rotation-and-retry scheme, really... :/

Oh well.

AFAIK, it normally does, but not every mirror has it.

Yeah, I found that. Seems this is a special case (though I had a similar problem with Xorg a few weeks back) where the miroring has been turned off. I guess that's Ok for a short time, but when it gets hit because a previously de-selected portage is suddenly a depenency for something almost everyone has in their system file, the single site is going to get clobbered. :/

The attr and acl packages are included because of the acl useflag. It causes them to be dependencies of rsync. Add USE="-acl" to /etc/make.conf and it will remove them from the dependencies.

(I'm not using acls or xfs so it doesn't look like I need these).

Code: Select all

waiting for lock on /usr/portage/distfiles/.locks/acl-2.2.27.src.tar.gz.portage_lockfile
I've waited for nearly an hour and nothing is being done.

scrapper just delete the lock_file.... that should do it fine / otherwise you may have 2 instances of portage running say a different terminal
