MA111 USB wireless NIC has to be installed on each boot

I have a MA111 that is working fine but I have to go through the installation procedure to turn it on. These are the steps I have to do on each bootup.

1. I have to add the following entry into the /etc/modules.conf file

alias wlan0 prism2_usb

I have to readd this entry because on reboot, the file reverts back to its original state or something because the entry I put into the file is gone.

2. I have to run the wlan script from the /etc/init.d folder with the following command:

/etc/init.d/wlan start

3. I have to assign the interface an IP address because it does not get an IP address from the DHCP server. I use the following command:

ifconfig wlan0 192.168.x.x

4. I have to add the default gateway to the routing table because the route is not in place. I use the following command:

route add default gw 192.168.x.x

After I do all those steps, my wireless NIC works. The nic actually works after step 3 but I can't get outside the network segment.

I need to know if there is a way I can either automate this process at boot, or install the device to where it will work everytime the computer boots up. Does anyone have and idea what to do?

You can create your own script file to do all of those things. You should also look into using the program quickswitch. You can define different profiles for internet access and change everything with one command. It's not that hard to set up either. You can also make the wlan script run automatically with the following command:

rc-update add wlan0 default

i had trouble with this adapter too. the init scripts included with wlan-ng simply didn't work.

it's quite easy, though, to create your own script and have it run at startup. just save the commands you'd issue normally to a file, make it executable, and put that file in /etc/conf.d/local.start.

then run

rc-update add local default

this is what i ended up doing and now everything works fine.

Yeah, I ended up getting it to working too. Like you said, the scripts simply did not work. Thanks.

I have the same adapter. Are you able to get it working with encrypted networks?
