Qt 4 Technology Preview

Trolltech has already released two technology previews of the future Qt 4. Why dont Gentoo add it to Portage?. It could be Hard Masked, and we could choose to use it.

actually as far as I know it's not that usable yet unless you're a programmer and want to start learning/porting some apps to the new api. If you want it for kde or something, then forget it... but it sounds like it will be a great realease once it's released... can't wait to start coding

PS: I think it'll be realease in 4-6 months... but of course I may be wrong...

PS2: then again, you're right... it could be hard masked in portage...

It's pretty much dev-only so people that dev KDE apps can get QT4-ready apps the second QT4 is released

It is pretty nice.

If you're up to using Qt4, then you should be able to make an ebuild for it yourself...

QT4 breaks compatibility with older QT versions, including 3 which is what KDE is using, so even if you did use an ebuild, KDE wouldn't compile against it. It's for programmers only to see what Trolltech has in store for later on (to be used by KDE 4.x).

QT4 beta1 has just been released now

Time to get started porting my app over and see how it runs.

You can download it from here
There should only be minor changes now before the API is frozen next year.
