FDFToolKit no longer available

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

FDFToolKit no longer available

When upgrading my system I now have a dependency listed:
app-text/fdftk
This has a fetch restriction and advises to visit adobe's website to get the FDFToolkitForUnix.tar.gz. Unfortunately, even after creating an account on Adobe's website, I can't download it as it requires me to send them a toolkit request form. I had fdftk in my make.conf USE flags (I dunno why I put it in there), so I removed it, but something seems to depend on it so it still requires it. Any ideas?

I don't think I really need it. It seems php may be whats wanting it. Any ideas where I go from here?

I can't paste much detail about my system as its currently not accessible from where I am, if someone needs it, I'd be happy to give any information about this system later on. Thanks.

Edit: Oops, I may have wanted to put this in the Portage forum, I just quickly decided since I was doing an upgrade that it's installation related.

Upgrade and installation are not the same.

Moved from Installing Gentoo.

I had the same problem when I did an emerge --update --deep world. However, removing the use flag for fdftk seems to be working, at least php is compiling now.

AFAIK the toolkit is still available but you need a windows box (not sure if Acrobat Reader is available in a high enough version (6.2 iirc) for Mac) to fill out the form since it's an user editable PDF.

I'm highly disapointed with Adobe - HTML forms work just fine and I don't see why they had to invent a new type of web form that isn't cross platform (since the accroread version available for *nix is still in the 5.x version). Do we really need spell checking for webforms?

Tommy

PS After you fill out the form you'll have to wait a couple weeks, is says. I assume someone is going to hassle me to buy Adobe products before they decide if I'm cool enough to get the tookit. What a load of <insert noxious substance here>!!!

Be careful you don't wish for Adobe Reader 6 for Unix. We might get it, and that would be a bad thing.

I keep a copy of the highest 5.x Acrobat for Windows I ever found just so I can install it on all new Windows installs, since Adobe no longer makes anything earlier than 6 available. And Adobe Reader 6 is really a pig. I haven't tried it on a really fast machine, but on my piddly 1 to 2 GHz machines it take about half a minute to load.

I'm quite happy that there isn't an AR6 for Unix -- if there were, the 5.x version would vanish, and 5.x is a lot better program. Funky features or not.
