Do you mean 'will be'? I thought they were due to be released in November?

Anyway, knoppix might be a solution here...

Is it out yet? I can't seem to find it on the mirrors. I've tried the OSU Open-Source Lab and Ibiblio.org

I meant 2004.2 :oops:

Knoppix if fine too.
I had no trouble installing Gentoo with a Atheros WiFi device (madwifi driver) and Sil3112A SATA using Knoppix :)

Wireless install has been possible since at least Gentoo LiveCD 1.4--I did it. There's no iwconfig--you have to manually edit /etc/pcmcia/wireless.opts and /etc/conf.d/net to get it to work.
For the orinoco, at least, all you have to do is:
1) edit /etc/pcmcia/wireless.opts:
Remove the lines of gibberish near the top that the file tells you to. Then enter your info:

Code: Select all

ESSID="<your essid>"
KEY="s:<your key>"
2) edit /etc/conf.d/net

Code: Select all

ifconfig_eth0=( "dhcp" )
ifconfig_eth1=( "dhcp" )
3) ln -s /etc/init.d/net.eth0 /etc/init.d/net.eth1
4) Restart pcmcia:

Code: Select all

/etc/init.d/pcmcia restart
5) Test your connection:

Code: Select all

ping www.google.com
6) Install away!

Thanks for the prompt info
Guess I better look for 2004-2 for best option and/or study the other help given, at my age it now takes longer to sink in.
Everything seemed much easier with Basic and old BBC2!!!! Programming was a snap!!

Did they have programming lessons on TV in the old days?? 8O
Or do you mean you could program BBC2 with Basic, so that you did not have to watch all the stupid soaps?

:lol:

Seriously, what is BBC2? I could only find stuff about the Brittish Broadcasting Company on google.

I guess that oldfartsxm1 is referring to the BBC micro which was an early microcomputer from (if I remember right) Acorn. The BBC name was because there was some sort of tie in with TV programmes.
